When is an optometrist enough and when do I need an ophthalmologist?

Choose an optometrist if you see worse, have blurred vision, squint or get headaches after computer work. An optometrist specialises in vision correction and fitting glasses or contact lenses.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor. See one if you have inflammation, a red painful eye, sudden floaters, flashes, injury or need treatment of eye diseases such as cataract or glaucoma.

Can I come with my current glasses?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is actually very helpful. Bring the glasses you currently use. We will read their power and check whether they still match your prescription. We will also assess whether the frame needs shaping.

Can you put new lenses into my old frame?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, yes. The frame must be in suitable technical condition: plastic cannot be cracked and hinges cannot be loose. Our optician will assess on site whether mounting is safe.

How long does it take to make glasses?

Accepted Answer

We have our own workshop, so basic glasses with stock lenses can often be made in about 1 hour. Custom lenses, such as progressive or prescription-order lenses, usually take 5 to 10 working days.

Do you fit multifocal contact lenses?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We fit multifocal contact lenses for people who need comfortable near and distance vision, most often after the age of 40. During the visit we check eye parameters, teach application and arrange a check-up after first wear.

Do you examine eyesight after eye drops?

Accepted Answer

Cycloplegic drops are a medical procedure. An optometrist examines eyesight without drops, using precise relaxation tests. If drops are needed, for example in young children, the examination should be performed by an ophthalmologist.

Can I pay for glasses in instalments?

In our salons we offer convenient financing options, including instalments, so choosing high-quality progressive glasses can be easier.

Question 8

How long does adaptation to progressive lenses take?

Accepted Answer

Most people adapt to progressives within 1-2 weeks. During that time the brain learns which zone to use: distance through the top, near through the bottom and intermediate distances through the middle. If after 2-3 weeks you still have dizziness or clear distortions, come back to us. Parameters may need adjustment or a different lens design may suit your vision and lifestyle better.

Do sunglasses need UV protection?

Yes. Dark lenses without UV protection are worse than no sunglasses, because the widened pupil lets in more radiation while you perceive less light. Every lens in our salon has full UVA and UVB protection. When fitting sunglasses, we can also check whether they can include your prescription and add polarised lenses if needed.

How often should I change my glasses?

Eyesight changes gradually, so we recommend a check-up every 1-2 years. Children and teenagers should come more often because refractive errors can develop quickly during growth. Apart from power, lens condition matters. Micro-scratches scatter light and increase eye fatigue. If you see worse through old glasses in the evening or low light, it is time for a visit.

Can you examine a child's eyesight?

Yes. We examine children from around 4-5 years old, when the child can cooperate with vision chart testing. The exam is painless and age-appropriate. We check visual acuity, muscle balance and early signs of refractive errors. If a child needs diagnosis with drops, for example with suspected strabismus or high prescription, we refer to an ophthalmologist. After the exam we discuss results with parents and help choose a frame if needed.

I have astigmatism - can I wear contact lenses?

Yes. Astigmatism is corrected with toric contact lenses, which have a stabilising design that prevents rotation on the eye. They are available as daily, two-week and monthly lenses. Fitting toric lenses is more complex than fitting spherical lenses because we also choose cylinder axis. That is why adaptation and a first-wear check-up are important.

Which lenses should I choose for computer work?

Accepted Answer

It depends on whether you have a prescription and how long you work at a screen. People with presbyopia often benefit from office lenses, which provide a wide zone for monitor and documents without head tilting. Regardless of prescription, we often recommend an anti-reflective coating with Blue Protect, which reduces reflections and limits exposure to blue light. Relaxation lenses may also reduce effort during long near work.

What are relaxation lenses?

Relaxation lenses have a small plus boost in the lower part, usually +0.5 to +1.25 D, reducing eye muscle effort during near work. They are designed for people with good vision or a small prescription who read or work at a computer a lot. They do not replace reading glasses for presbyopia and do not cure eye strain, but they may noticeably reduce fatigue at the end of the day. Qualification is best done during a visit.

How do I know my prescription has changed?

Common symptoms include squinting for distance or near vision, headaches after visual work, tension around eyes or forehead, difficulty focusing in low light or in the evening. Sometimes vision changes without obvious symptoms, so regular checks are worthwhile even if glasses still seem good. The measurement takes several minutes.

Are contact lenses safe for someone who has never worn them?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if fitting and application training are done correctly. During the first visit we perform a full fitting, check eye parameters and choose a trial lens. Then we teach safe insertion, removal and care. After one or two weeks we do a check-up to see whether the lens sits correctly and comfort is sufficient. If something is not right, we change the type or parameters.

Question 17

What should I do if my glasses lose adjustment or break?

Accepted Answer

Bring them to the salon. Adjustment and minor repairs, such as tightening hinges, straightening the frame or improving fit, are free services we perform on site whenever possible. For more serious damage we assess whether repair is worthwhile or whether frame replacement is safer. If lenses are intact, they can often be moved to a new frame.
